Solar California – Solar Powered Quarry

A Santa Rosa, California based company, BoDean, which supplies aggregate and asphalt, is the first 100% solar powered quarry in the world.

BoDean installed 3,444 pv solar panels, enough to generate 1.165 Mw of electricity every year (enough to power 160 homes for a year). This is not the first time the company has been involved in renewable energy. The BoDean Santa Rosa, California, headquarters has had solar panels on the roof since 2006. In addition, several BoDean employees have installed solar on their homes.

The California solar system will replace $25,000 of electricity a month from PGE. Three California solar contractors were used including:

  • Stellar Energy GP
  • Napa Electric
  • Vince Sigal

BoDean is looking into renewable energy for all of his company’s  operations. This includes more photovoltaic and possibly wind.

BoDean will be able to pay for their California solar system in just 7 years, after which they will receive $25,000 in free electricity every month. This is a huge benefit of renewable energy.
